How do I get my kids to do the things I want them to do? (Encouraging Positive Behavior)

How do I get my kids to do the things I want them to do?

Parents have 3 jobs.

  1. Controlling obnoxious behavior (whining, arguing, teasing, badgering, tantrums, yelling, fighting, etc.)
  2. Encouraging good behavior (picking up toys, going to bed, being courteous, etc.)
  3. Strengthening your relationship with your child

Today we’re talking about Job #2 – how to get kids to do the things they’re supposed to do, or the things you want them to do. Believe it or not, this can feel even tougher than parenting job #1, especially if you’re using the 1-2-3 Magic counting system.

We’re discussing some tactics for getting Parenting Job #2 done, how those things are different from Parenting Job #1, and how to take that Start (good) behavior to the next level.

In this week's video, Dr. Phelan covers:

  • Some tactics for getting Parenting Job #2 done
  • How those things are different from Parenting Job #1
  • How to take that Start (good) behavior to the next level and teach your kids not only to listen, but to take initiative
